71. Read a Classic Book I’ve Never Read
Year after year I find myself in the same conversation with a bunch of different people.
Person: “You really have never read ‘BOOK TITLE’? But it’s a classic!”
Me: “No…I should probably get around to that…”
The book that I seem to get the most crap for not reading is ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, which is why I chose that as the first of (hopefully) many classic books I’d like to read. I love reading, and I go through weeks at a time where I plow through book after book, so I figure that some of those might as well some of the widely loved classics.
About 10 pages in to ‘Catcher’, I was already in love with it, and already on Amazon ordering the rest of of Saligner’s work, because I was head over heels in love with how it was written. I completely connected with the character, I fell in love with the story, and I can’t believe it took me 24 years to actually get around to reading this absolutely fantastic story. It’s such a simple story, yet it says so much - which is what I really like in a story. I don’t tend to want to read things that are super deep or involve too much effort on my end as a reader. Virtually every line in ‘Catcher’ is quotable.
I don’t usually re-read books, but I have a feeling that I may end up re-reading this one, just because its got so many absolutely great lines.
